Indianapolis, IN – The US National Weather Service Northern Indiana has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia until 8 PM EDT Sunday.
The affected areas in east-central Indiana include Fayette, Union, and Wayne counties. The storm watch warns of the potential for a couple of tornadoes, scattered hail up to the size of ping pong balls, and wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph. The storm’s threat also extends to southeast Indiana, northern Kentucky, and western Ohio.
According to the National Weather Service, approximately 8.5 million people, 2,815 schools, and 174 hospitals could be affected by the severe weather conditions. Residents in these areas are urged to stay vigilant, monitor weather updates, and have emergency plans ready.
Local authorities advise securing outdoor objects that could become projectiles in strong winds and seeking shelter in a sturdy building if a warning is issued. Motorists should also be cautious of sudden changes in weather conditions that could affect driving visibility and road safety.
As the storm system moves through the region, residents are encouraged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until the severe weather passes.
