Sterling, CO – A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska, including the area near Sterling, valid until 9 PM MDT on Sunday. The National Weather Service warns of potential tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds across the tri-state region.
According to the National Weather Service Denver/Boulder office, the storm system could produce a couple of tornadoes, with scattered hail up to two inches in diameter and wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph. This severe weather threat covers key areas in northeastern Colorado, northwestern Kansas, and southwestern Nebraska, impacting nearly 97,000 people, including 162 schools and 20 hospitals.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to monitor weather updates and be prepared to take shelter if conditions worsen. The watch extends over towns like Sterling in Colorado, Yuma and Burlington, as well as parts of western Kansas and southern Nebraska, where the storms are expected to hit hardest.
