Residents in these areas should prepare for potentially hazardous weather conditions, including isolated hail up to the size of ping pong balls and scattered wind gusts reaching up to 90 mph.
According to the US National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, the affected areas include major cities such as Watertown, Huron, Brookings, Madison, and Sioux Falls in South Dakota, as well as Spirit Lake, Marshall, and Montevideo in Minnesota. Areas in Iowa and Nebraska are also under watch. The primary concerns are hail, strong winds, and frequent lightning.
Today, Sioux Falls can expect clear skies with a high of 92°F and a low of 70°F. Moving into the week, temperatures will moderate with highs of 87°F on Monday and 80°F on Tuesday. The midweek forecast shows cooler temperatures with highs of 78°F on Wednesday and 79°F on Thursday, accompanied by sunny skies. By Friday, temperatures will rise slightly to a high of 81°F.
Residents are urged to stay indoors during the thunderstorm watch period and to secure outdoor objects that could be blown away by strong winds. It is also advised to have emergency supplies on hand in case of power outages.
