Quad Cities, IA/IL – A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 2 a.m. CDT Saturday for multiple counties across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, including major cities such as Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Dubuque, Moline, and Rock Island.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in the Quad Cities, the affected areas could experience damaging winds, large hail, and frequent lightning as storms move through overnight. The watch includes 12 counties in Iowa and 12 counties in Illinois, covering cities such as Bettendorf, Burlington, Clinton, Freeport, Macomb, and Sterling.
Residents are advised to remain alert as conditions may rapidly change, leading to severe weather development. The NWS urges people in the impacted regions to seek shelter if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued and to avoid unnecessary travel during storm activity.
Strong wind gusts and hail could cause power outages and hazardous road conditions. Motorists should exercise caution, particularly on highways and interstates prone to sudden weather shifts.
The storm system is expected to weaken as it moves eastward, with calmer conditions likely by early Saturday morning. However, additional weather updates will be provided as necessary.
