Tampa Bay, FL – The National Weather Service in Ruskin has issued a Special Marine Warning for portions of Florida’s Gulf Coast waters due to severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts and wind gusts exceeding 34 knots. The warning remains in effect until 6:00 AM EDT Monday.

According to the NWS, storms were detected at 4:33 AM along a line extending from 28 nautical miles south of Buckeye Reef to 58 nautical miles west of Egmont Key, moving northeast at 45 knots. Mariners are urged to seek safe harbor immediately.

Areas at risk include Ozello, Crystal River, Bayport, Tarpon Springs, Dunedin, Clearwater Beach, and Cedar Key. Boaters should expect dangerous winds, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours.

Precautionary Action: Move to safe harbor until conditions improve. Waterspouts can quickly capsize vessels and create hazardous waves.
