Unalaska, AK — A series of earthquakes shook the Unalaska region on Sunday, with residents urged to report any effects. The largest quake, measuring 4.7 in magnitude, occurred 70 kilometers south-southwest of Unalaska at 8:34 a.m. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor struck at a depth of 57.3 kilometers.
Two additional quakes followed nearby, registering magnitudes of 4.3 and 4.5. These events happened at 3:07 p.m. and 11:08 a.m., respectively. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to contribute to USGS’s “Did You Feel It?” survey, allowing experts to gather more data.
A smaller, unrelated 3.7 magnitude earthquake also hit McCarthy, Alaska, later in the day at 5:20 p.m. The depth was recorded at 13.3 kilometers. The USGS continues to monitor these events, but no damage reports have emerged.
