Seattle, WA – A major winter storm is set to impact the Cascades of Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, and Northern King Counties, with heavy snowfall expected through Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Thursday, with up to 6 additional inches of snow expected. Following this, a Winter Storm Warning will take effect from 5 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Saturday, bringing between 12 to 20 inches of snow to the region.
The storm will create hazardous travel conditions, especially on bridges, overpasses, and mountain passes, including Stevens Pass. Officials urge drivers to exercise caution, reduce speeds, and carry emergency supplies such as flashlights, food, and water in their vehicles.
Power outages are possible due to the intensity of the storm, and residents should prepare accordingly. The NWS advises staying indoors if possible and monitoring updates for further advisories or warnings.
This storm marks a significant late-season snowfall event for the Pacific Northwest, which has seen fluctuating winter conditions in recent weeks. Travelers heading through the Cascades should expect delays and difficult driving conditions through early Saturday morning.
