Tempe, AZ – A spooky surprise emerged during Saturday’s National CleanUp Day on Loop 202 in Tempe. Volunteers discovered a mask resembling the iconic character from the 1996 horror film Scream. The unexpected find sparked laughter, adding a festive pre-Halloween vibe to the event.

Twenty-two volunteers participated, including nine from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). One passerby even joined, grabbing a bag during her morning walk.

Saturday’s event was the second cleanup hosted by ADOT this year. Volunteers filled 23 bags, collecting approximately 500 pounds of litter. ADOT thanked participants for helping make Arizona’s roads cleaner while adding some light-hearted Halloween spirit to the day.

For more information on how to help, ADOT encourages visiting their Adopt-a-Highway program to find local areas in need of support.
