Scottsdale, AZ – Scottsdale is still reeling from a severe downburst that struck the city last Tuesday, August 6, 2024, uprooting dozens of trees and causing significant damage across the McCormick Ranch neighborhood. The downburst brought winds exceeding 60-70 mph, resulting in widespread destruction near the intersection of Hayden and Via de Ventura Roads. Several residents were evacuated from the Avia McCormick Ranch Apartment Complex after downed trees damaged vehicles and blocked access roads.
As Scottsdale continues recovery efforts, a relentless heatwave has settled over the region. Temperatures are now soaring, adding to the challenges faced by residents and emergency workers. Today, the high is expected to reach 107°F, with overnight lows only dropping to the mid-80s. The heatwave shows no signs of relenting, with temperatures forecasted to hit 109°F on Friday and 107°F through the weekend.
Early next week, the situation will worsen as the mercury climbs even higher, with Monday and Tuesday expected to reach 108°F and 110°F, respectively. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat, and be cautious while navigating areas still affected by the storm damage.
