Schererville, IN – Police apprehended an alleged burglary suspect after a reported suspicious vehicle led to an attempted break-in Tuesday.
Residents on Cambridge Drive alerted officers about a vehicle circling the area. Officers soon discovered a man allegedly trying to break into a home. A second man, described as a “lookout,” fled the area and remains at large.
Officers engaged one suspect, George Lamont Pittman, 31, of Sauk Village, Illinois, who attempted to flee on foot. According to police, a K9 unit, drones, and a helicopter assisted in the search. Pittman was eventually apprehended, while the second suspect evaded capture.
Detectives presented evidence to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday. Pittman faces four alleged charges: Level 4 felony attempted burglary, Level 6 felony attempted residential entry, Class A misdemeanor resisting law enforcement, and Class A misdemeanor criminal mischief.
Police thanked alert residents, along with the Dyer Police Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Department, for their assistance. Authorities confirmed the investigation remains ongoing, with no additional details released at this time.
