Schererville, IN – A situation rapidly escalated on March 8th after an alleged theft at a Schererville Wal-Mart, where 38-year-old James Lavar Lane Jr. from Kankakee, Illinois, is accused of threatening a loss prevention employee with a knife before leading police on a high-speed chase along US 41. The chase concluded with Lane’s vehicle crashing in the 700 block of US 41, leading to his apprehension.
According to the Schererville Police Department, Lane allegedly attempted to steal $825 worth of merchandise, utilizing a knife to threaten Wal-Mart’s loss prevention staff during his escape.
The vehicle used in the escape, subsequently involved in the high-speed pursuit, was reported stolen from Kankakee, Illinois.
Lane now faces multiple charges, including a Level 3 felony for armed robbery, and has been transported to the Lake County Jail, where his bond is set at $5,000 cash.
