Sarasota County, Florida – An overnight patrol response in Manasota Key led to the arrest of a local man on sexual battery charges involving a minor.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 2:13 a.m. after locating a black Toyota Scion illegally parked in the Manasota Key parking lot after posted hours. Deputies reported finding a man and a 13-year-old female inside the vehicle, both unclothed.

Investigators allege that further investigation determined the man and the minor had engaged in sexual activity. The man, identified by the sheriff’s office as J. Inman, white male, date of birth Nov. 16, 2005, was taken into custody at the scene.

Authorities said Inman was charged with two counts of sexual battery on a minor, classified under Florida law as offenses involving victims ages 12 to 18. He was transported to the Sarasota County Correctional Facility, where he remains in custody.

The sheriff’s office stated the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives have not released additional details regarding how the individuals came into contact or whether further charges may be filed.

Officials also confirmed that Inman is employed as a lifeguard with the City of North Port Aquatic Center. The city has not released a statement regarding his employment status as of publication.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit is asking anyone who believes they may be a victim, or who has information related to the case, to contact investigators at 941-861-4900.

Cases involving alleged sexual offenses against minors often rely on community reporting to identify additional victims, investigators noted.
