San Francisco, California — Strong northerly winds will impact California’s coastal waters through Saturday evening, creating hazardous conditions for mariners and boaters. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued both Storm and Gale Warnings for various regions, with the worst conditions expected north of Pigeon Point.
According to the NWS, a Storm Warning is in effect north of Pigeon Point, where winds could reach up to 58 mph. South of this area, Gale Warnings have been issued, with winds expected to range from 30 to 35 mph, gusting as high as 50 mph. These strong winds will result in dangerous seas and could make boating conditions treacherous through the weekend.
The NWS has outlined that the storm warnings will last until 9 p.m. Saturday, while gale warnings will continue through Sunday morning. Coastal waters from Point Arena to Point Piedras Blancas will be affected, stretching up to 60 nautical miles from the shore.
Residents and boaters in these areas are urged to stay off the water, secure loose objects, and monitor conditions closely. Strong winds and rough seas will make for hazardous boating, particularly for smaller vessels.
