Austin, Texas – Scattered showers and thunderstorms are bringing welcome rain—but also potential hazards—across Central Texas this weekend, with highs soaring into the mid-90s and storm chances peaking through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio, storms will become more widespread along the I-35 corridor from Friday evening through Monday, July 15, with rain chances reaching 50% in cities like Austin, San Antonio, and Cuero on Saturday and Sunday. Downpours may be heavy at times, especially for the Coastal Plains and Hill Country, leading to brief street flooding and slick roads.

Austin, San Marcos, New Braunfels, and Bastrop can expect afternoon highs of 92° to 97°, with the most intense heat early next week as rain chances decrease. Isolated pockets of heavy rain could impact the evening commute and outdoor plans, while low temperatures stay muggy in the low 70s.

Drivers should allow extra time on I-35 and major highways during storms, watch for ponding water, and never attempt to cross flooded roads. Keep phones charged and review local emergency alerts, as scattered showers may decrease in coverage after sunset but can return at any time this weekend.

Showers will taper off by Tuesday, but highs near 98° will keep Central Texas feeling every bit of July. More advisories may be issued if storms redevelop early next week.

  • Saturday: Scattered storms, high 92°, rain chance 50%
