Austin, Texas – Warm, muggy nights are gripping Central and South Texas as July’s heat continues, with San Antonio and Austin both expecting lows in the mid-70s and a stretch of triple-digit days ahead. Rain chances are set to return Friday, offering a brief break from persistent dryness across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, skies will stay mostly clear this evening before turning partly cloudy overnight. South to southeast winds near 15 mph will ease after midnight, keeping overnight lows comfortable for mid-summer, generally between 70°F and 76°F across the region.
Cities like Austin, San Antonio, Del Rio, and Eagle Pass are expected to see highs near or above 100°F through Sunday, with overnight temperatures stubbornly warm. The upcoming rain risk rises sharply on Friday—up to 40% in San Antonio, 50% in Austin, and 55% in Fredericksburg. These scattered showers could offer short-term relief, especially for those in the Hill Country and along the I-35 corridor.
Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest hours, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Drivers should watch for slick roads if showers develop late Friday and Saturday.
Rain chances drop off after the weekend, with hot, dry weather likely to persist into next week. More advisories are possible if storms intensify or heat indices rise further.
