Austin, Texas – Residents across Central and South-Central Texas should prepare for several more days of intense summer heat as triple-digit temperatures and dangerous heat index values continue through early next week. Rain chances remain minimal, allowing the prolonged hot and dry pattern to persist across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, today’s highs will range from the lower 90s to 104 degrees under sunny skies. Temperatures are expected to reach 104 degrees in Carrizo Springs, 102 in Del Rio and Eagle Pass, 101 in Pearsall, 100 in Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Llano, Georgetown, and La Grange, 99 in Uvalde, Hondo, Gonzales, Pleasanton, and Luling, while Kerrville remains slightly cooler near 92 degrees.
The heat continues through early next week, with some inland communities forecast to reach 101 degrees on multiple afternoons. Heat index values will be even higher, peaking near 110 degrees in parts of the Interstate 35 corridor and surrounding communities, including Austin, San Antonio, Georgetown, New Braunfels, and San Marcos.
The National Weather Service says moderate to major HeatRisk will continue through early next week as the combination of prolonged heat and warm overnight temperatures limits recovery, especially for those without adequate cooling.
Travel conditions along Interstates 10, 35, and 37 will remain favorable with little to no rain expected, but outdoor workers, athletes, and anyone spending extended time outside should schedule strenuous activities during the early morning or evening whenever possible.
Drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces or the shade, wear lightweight clothing, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles. Additional heat advisories may be issued if dangerous temperatures and heat index values continue into next week.
