San Angelo, TX – Elevated fire danger threatens parts of West-Central Texas today as a weak cold front pushes through the region, bringing gusty winds and dry conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, the cold front is expected to pass through this afternoon, shifting winds from the south to the north at speeds between 10 to 20 mph. Ahead of the front, warm temperatures and light southwest winds will persist, increasing the likelihood of fire spread in dry areas. The most at-risk zone stretches from north of San Angelo to Brownwood.

Temperatures ahead of the front will remain in the upper 70s, with cooler air arriving later in the day. The NWS has labeled the fire weather risk as “elevated” due to a combination of dry fuels, low humidity, and increasing wind speeds.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and remain alert for any signs of fire activity. Secure loose items, avoid parking in dry grass, and report any smoke or fire sightings immediately.

The elevated fire conditions are expected to gradually subside into the evening as winds shift and cooler air settles in.
