SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Northern Utah’s fall calm won’t last long. After a bright, breezy weekend, another cold front will charge into the state early next week—bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and a chance for the season’s first snow showers by Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, the system will push through late Monday into Tuesday morning, spreading valley rain and mountain snow across the Wasatch Front and I-15 corridor. While major accumulations aren’t expected, brief bursts of snow may dust benches and higher neighborhoods early Tuesday. Drivers should plan for slower commutes, especially along I-80 and in Parleys Canyon, where slushy spots could develop before sunrise.

Before that wintry twist, the end of the week looks pleasant. Sunshine and mild afternoons will dominate Friday through Sunday, with highs ranging from the mid-60s to low 70s—perfect for pumpkin patch visits, leaf peeping, or fall festivals across Salt Lake County. Winds stay light through the weekend, though cooler air begins filtering in by Monday afternoon.

Homeowners should prepare now for the quick cooldown by securing garden hoses and protecting outdoor plants. Mountain travelers and hunters are urged to watch for changing conditions Monday night into Tuesday as snow levels drop near 5,000 feet.

This marks Utah’s first hint of early winter—typical for late October—signaling that the state’s sunny fall stretch is about to turn brisk and blustery.
