Chicago, IL — Nearly 2 million eggs are being pulled from store shelves across Illinois, California, and seven other states after health officials linked them to a multi-state Salmonella outbreak.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, August Egg Company of Hilmar, California, is voluntarily recalling approximately 1.7 million brown cage-free and organic eggs. The affected products were distributed between February 3 and May 15 to major grocery retailers, including Safeway, FoodMaxx, Lucky, and Raleys.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the eggs are allegedly tied to an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis that has sickened at least 80 people and hospitalized 21 in seven states.

The recalled eggs can be identified by plant codes P-6562 or CA5330 with Julian date numbers 32 to 126, printed on one side of the carton. Impacted states include Illinois, California, Indiana, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Nebraska, and Wyoming.

Consumers are urged to return the eggs for a full refund and avoid consumption. Questions may be directed to August Egg Company at 1-800-710-2554.
