Sacramento, CA – A powerful winter storm is bringing heavy snowfall and intense winds to the Sierra Nevada region, with hazardous conditions expected to persist through Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 p.m. Monday for areas above 4,500 feet in Western Plumas County, Lassen Park, and the West Slope of the Northern Sierra Nevada. Snow accumulations could reach between 1 to 3 feet above 5,000 feet, with some peaks seeing up to 4 feet of snow. Lower elevations between 4,500 and 5,000 feet could receive 5 to 12 inches of snowfall.

Strong winds are also a concern, with gusts reaching 75 mph in some areas, which could lead to blowing snow, reduced visibility, and downed tree branches. Officials warn that travel could be difficult to impossible, particularly on mountain roads and passes, and could severely impact both morning and evening commutes on Monday.

The heaviest snowfall is expected overnight and into early Monday morning, with snowfall rates reaching 2 to 3 inches per hour. Snow levels will gradually drop to 3,500 feet late Monday night, leading to additional light accumulations of 1 to 3 inches.

Motorists are urged to check road conditions before traveling by visiting quickmap.dot.ca.gov or dialing 511. Travelers should avoid unnecessary trips, carry emergency supplies, and drive with extreme caution if travel is required.
