Riverton, WY – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall and strong winds to multiple regions of Wyoming, including Yellowstone National Park, the Absaroka Mountains, and the Bighorn Mountains, through Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, snowfall totals will range from 12 to 24 inches in higher elevations, with localized areas seeing up to two feet. The northern half of Yellowstone could receive between 4 and 8 inches. Wind gusts of up to 55 mph are expected in the morning, gradually subsiding by evening.
The storm will also impact Northeast Johnson County, where Buffalo and surrounding areas could see 6 to 12 inches of snow. Gusts of up to 40 mph will make travel difficult along Interstates 90 and 25, especially during the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.
Travelers are urged to prepare for hazardous road conditions, particularly on mountain passes such as Teton, Togwotee, and Powder River/Granite. Authorities advise keeping an emergency kit, including food, water, and a flashlight, when traveling.
