Sacramento, California – A sharp pattern shift will bring cooler air, gusty winds, and the return of rain chances across Northern California starting Monday, with the biggest impacts arriving by Tuesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a new storm track will drop south into California early next week, ending the stretch of dry, above-normal warmth. High temperatures in the Sacramento Valley will fall from the mid-80s this weekend to the low 70s Monday, then into the mid-60s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Wind will be a primary concern. Gusts are expected to increase across the region, reaching 20 to 30 mph by Tuesday afternoon in areas like Chico, Red Bluff, and Redding. These conditions could impact high-profile vehicles along Interstate 5 and Highway 99, especially in open valley areas.

Rain chances will begin to increase late Monday into Tuesday, with light valley rainfall and snow possible in the Sierra Nevada. Isolated thunderstorms may develop, bringing brief downpours and gusty, erratic winds.

Cities including Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto, and Auburn will feel the cooldown quickly after Monday, with breezy conditions developing midweek.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items and prepare for changing travel conditions, especially in mountain passes where snow could develop. The unsettled pattern is expected to continue through midweek, with additional updates likely as the system approaches.
