Salem, NH – A Massachusetts man was arrested late Saturday night after a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 93 that stretched across several southern New Hampshire towns, according to state police.
Trooper Alex Guilbeault of Troop B spotted a white 2025 BMW X2 traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on I-93 in Windham shortly before 11:30 p.m. When the trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver allegedly accelerated, prompting a pursuit.
During the chase, police said the BMW exited I-93 northbound at Exit 4 in Londonderry before quickly returning southbound, continuing to travel at high speeds. The driver allegedly used multiple off-ramps near Exits 3 and 2 in an attempt to evade troopers before re-entering the highway.
The pursuit came to an end near mile marker 1.8 southbound in Salem, where troopers stopped the vehicle and took the driver—identified as Rafy Vilas, 25, of Lawrence, Massachusetts—and two passengers into custody.
Vilas was charged with felony reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, disobeying an officer, and reckless driving. He was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Salem District Court on Feb. 19, 2026. The two passengers were not charged.
According to police, no injuries were reported. Salem officers assisted state troopers at the scene.
