
Rockingham County, NC – A school bus carrying 23 students from Huntsville Elementary crashed Friday morning, October 3, 2025, in Madison, according to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the accident happened on Sardis Church Road when the bus left the roadway and struck a guardrail. Emergency services responded quickly, and all students were evaluated at the scene.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, two students were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries for further evaluation. The remaining students were assessed by EMS and school nurses before being released back to school. Parents were also notified immediately.
The Sheriff’s Office credited multiple agencies for their rapid response, including Rockingham County EMS, Rockingham County 911 Communications, the NC State Highway Patrol, Huntsville and Stokesdale Fire Departments, and Dr. Stover of Rockingham County Schools.
Officials emphasized that the safety and well-being of students remain a top priority. Sheriff Sam Page noted that while the incident was concerning, it was fortunate that injuries were only minor.
The roadway has since been cleared, and no further delays were reported.
