Rockford Fires Leave Families Displaced, Pets Lost; Four Hospitalized

Rockford, IL – The Rockford Fire Department responded to two structure fires on Eastmoreland Avenue and Robey Avenue this afternoon, displacing multiple residents and causing extensive damage. The first fire was reported at 4:31 p.m. on the 1700 block of Eastmoreland Avenue. Firefighters quickly brought it under control within 20 minutes, but the blaze caused major damage throughout the home, displacing three occupants. Tragically, two pets perished in the incident. The cause remains under investigation.

At 5:19 p.m., firefighters responded to another fire on the 3700 block of Robey Avenue in a 12-unit apartment building. Crews contained the fire within 10 minutes, limiting damage to a single unit. However, one adult and three children suffered smoke inhalation and were transported to a local hospital. Another resident was displaced due to the fire. Authorities determined that this fire was accidental and linked to cooking.
