Richmond, VA – A major temperature swing is on the way for Virginia as a strong cold front moves through late Sunday into Monday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield.

After a mild Saturday with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s, a warm front will bring spotty showers tonight into early Sunday, followed by a stronger cold front Sunday night that ushers in a blast of much colder air.

Forecasters say rain chances will increase late Sunday, with a few isolated thunderstorms possible, especially near the coast and southern Virginia. Behind the front, temperatures will drop sharply — highs Monday will only reach the 40s and low 50s inland, with 30s possible near the Chesapeake Bay by Monday night.

“A much stronger cold front will move through late Sunday into Monday with showers and a big change in temperatures,” the NWS said.

The chill will linger into Tuesday morning with widespread lows in the 20s and 30s, marking one of the coldest starts of the season so far.

Residents are advised to prepare for a quick weather change and much cooler conditions as the new workweek begins.
