Richmond, Va. – Virginians will wake up to patchy fog Thursday morning, but skies are expected to clear quickly with afternoon highs reaching the upper 70s to low 80s. The National Weather Service in Wakefield said drivers should allow extra time for their commute before fog burns off shortly after sunrise.
According to forecasters, a moderate risk of rip currents remains in place today for all beaches along the Virginia coast, including Virginia Beach and Sandbridge. Conditions will improve heading into Friday, when the risk drops to low through the weekend. Beachgoers are urged to stay alert, swim near lifeguards, and avoid venturing out if unsure of water conditions.
Across the state, a warmer and drier stretch begins today and will continue into Friday. That will provide welcome relief after several days of unsettled weather. Inland communities including Richmond, Norfolk, and Petersburg can expect dry skies and comfortable temperatures that make for good outdoor conditions.
The National Weather Service said Thursday’s fog and rip current alerts are the main hazards. Drivers and beach visitors should use caution until conditions improve by Friday morning.
