Richmond, VA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across the Richmond area through this morning, as patchy freezing rain or freezing drizzle continues to create hazardous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service in Wakefield said inland sections of southeast Virginia, including Richmond and surrounding counties, may experience freezing rain or spotty freezing drizzle early Monday. Even where precipitation is ending, road conditions remain dangerous due to lingering ice from Sunday’s winter storm.

Forecasters emphasized that bridges, overpasses, and untreated secondary roads are especially vulnerable to icy conditions. Travel hazards are expected to persist through the morning commute, even as precipitation diminishes.

The advisory covers much of the region away from the coast, where colder surface temperatures allow ice to linger. Visibility is not expected to be a major concern, but slick pavement may be difficult to detect, increasing the risk of spinouts and crashes.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and avoid sudden braking. If travel is necessary, motorists should use caution and remain alert for changing road conditions, particularly in shaded areas.

Commuters, students, and early-shift workers traveling Monday morning should plan for longer drive times and consider delaying non-essential trips until temperatures rise later in the day.

The National Weather Service noted that while precipitation should largely end this morning, travel impacts may last longer until roads are treated or temperatures climb above freezing.

Additional updates will be issued if conditions worsen or if advisories are extended.
