Providence, RI – Rhode Island is under a Winter Storm Warning from 1 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday, with Providence expected to receive between 4 and 8 inches of snow. The National Weather Service warns of heavy snowfall rates, particularly between 6 p.m. and midnight, which could reach up to 2 inches per hour.

Travel conditions are expected to become treacherous during the evening hours, with untreated roads becoming snow-covered and slippery. Residents are urged to limit travel and to exercise caution if driving is necessary. Temperatures will remain well below freezing, contributing to the potential for icy conditions and reduced visibility.

In anticipation of the storm, Providence city officials have activated emergency response plans and are coordinating with state agencies to manage snow removal and public safety efforts. Residents are encouraged to stay updated through official channels and to adhere to any advisories or restrictions issued. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has also advised motorists to prepare for extended travel times and to ensure vehicles are equipped for winter conditions.

As the region prepares for this significant weather event, residents should take proactive measures, such as stocking up on essential supplies and ensuring that heating systems are functioning properly. Checking on elderly or vulnerable neighbors is also recommended to ensure community safety during the storm.
