Wichita Falls, TX – The Red River Valley is enjoying a quiet start to November, but forecasters say a strong cold front near Thanksgiving could bring a quick shift toward winter conditions across the region.

According to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC) outlook issued October 24, 2025, North Texas, southern Oklahoma, and western Arkansas will stay warmer and mostly dry through mid-November, keeping early snow off the table for now. However, the last week of the month may look and feel very different.

Meteorologists say that as the jet stream dips south, colder Canadian air could spill into the southern Plains, dropping overnight lows into the 30s and 40s. While most areas will only see frost and chilly rain, a strong enough system could produce brief flurries in northern Oklahoma or higher terrain near the Ouachita Mountains right before Thanksgiving.

For now, it’s a comfortable fall pattern—but residents should keep jackets and windshield scrapers close. One front could make it feel like winter overnight.
