Amarillo, TX – After a stretch of mild fall days, Panhandle residents may soon trade sunshine for sleet as forecasters track colder air building just before Thanksgiving.
According to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC) update released October 24, 2025, the Texas Panhandle will see above-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation through the first half of the month. That means a quiet, pleasant start to November for Amarillo, Lubbock, and Dalhart—but forecasters say things could change quickly.
By November 18–24, a strong Arctic front is projected to dive south out of the Central Rockies, potentially bringing frost, freezing rain, or light snow to the northern Panhandle. While major accumulations aren’t expected yet, overnight lows could dip well below freezing, creating slick conditions just ahead of the Thanksgiving travel rush.
For now, the Panhandle’s fall forecast remains calm—but all signs point to winter knocking early on the High Plains.
