Grand Forks, ND – A clipper system moving southeast from Manitoba into northwest Ontario is expected to spread light snow across northwest Minnesota today, according to the US National Weather Service in Grand Forks.

The heaviest snow will likely occur near the Lake of the Woods region, where 1 to 2 inches are possible. For the far northern Red River Valley, including Cavalier, Langdon, Thief River Falls, and Red Lake, snow amounts will range from a trace to about half an inch.

A second weak system is forecast to move across southeast North Dakota and west-central Minnesota tonight into early Friday, bringing a dusting to half an inch of snow. Roads could become slick in spots, particularly on untreated surfaces during the morning commute.

After the snow ends Friday morning, skies will gradually clear with temperatures remaining near or below freezing. Winds will stay light, keeping blowing snow impacts minimal.

Drivers are advised to use caution and allow extra travel time, especially in rural areas where visibility may briefly drop during snow showers.
