San Francisco, CA – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 11 p.m. Thursday through 5 p.m. Saturday for the Bay Area and Central Coast due to strong offshore winds and critically dry conditions. This includes San Francisco, North Bay Interior Mountains, East Bay Hills, and portions of Monterey County.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), gusty north-northeast winds of 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, are expected. Isolated gusts could reach 65 mph in higher terrain, particularly in the North Bay Mountains and Diablo Range. Humidity levels are forecast to drop as low as 9-12%, rapidly drying out fuels and increasing the risk of fast-spreading wildfires.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and any activities that could generate sparks, such as using power tools or grills. The combination of strong winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures creates a high risk for extreme fire behavior.
While winds will begin to diminish late Saturday, fire danger will persist until the warning expires at 5 p.m. Residents should remain vigilant, stay informed with local updates, and be prepared for possible evacuations.
