St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis area is gearing up for the hottest day of the year on Sunday, with temperatures expected to reach the upper 90s and heat indices soaring between 100-105 degrees. According to the National Weather Service, this heatwave marks the first time this year that the region will experience such extreme temperatures.

Sunday’s forecast predicts mostly clear skies, allowing the sun to drive temperatures to their peak in the afternoon and early evening. Residents are encouraged to take necessary precautions, including staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.

Looking ahead, the heatwave is expected to persist into the early part of next week. Monday’s temperatures will remain high, ranging from 90-97 degrees, with heat indices between 99-105 degrees. There is also a 20-40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms, providing a slight respite from the heat.

By Tuesday, temperatures will slightly decrease, with highs projected to be between 83-91 degrees. However, the heat will return on Wednesday, with expected temperatures ranging from 88-93 degrees.

While this extreme heat is typical for summer in St. Louis, it’s crucial for residents to take precautions. The National Weather Service advises drinking plenty of water, taking frequent breaks if outside, and wearing loose, light-colored clothing to stay cool and safe during this heatwave.
