Raleigh, North Carolina – A cool, damp Saturday is underway across central North Carolina, with periods of light rain creating wet roads before conditions dry out and turn colder overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, rain will develop mainly after late morning, with the steadiest showers favoring the midday and early afternoon hours. Precipitation will taper off from west to east late this afternoon into the evening as the system exits the region. Rainfall amounts are expected to remain light, but slick roadways could slow travel, especially during the afternoon.

High temperatures today will range from the upper 30s across the northern Piedmont to the mid and upper 40s farther south, including portions of the Sandhills and southern Coastal Plain. Cloud cover will keep conditions feeling raw for much of the day.

Behind the departing rain, drier air moves in tonight, allowing temperatures to fall quickly after sunset. Overnight lows are expected to drop into the mid to upper 20s across northern areas, including the Triangle and Triad, with lower 30s farther south. Any lingering moisture on roads or sidewalks could freeze late tonight, creating isolated slick spots by early Sunday morning.

Sunday is expected to be dry but cooler, with clouds gradually giving way to brighter conditions. Residents should remain cautious during late-night and early-morning travel as colder air settles in, and monitor updates in case conditions change.
