Raleigh, North Carolina – Rain will impact much of central North Carolina Wednesday morning, with the highest rain chances—up to 83 percent—across areas near Interstate 40 before skies gradually clear during the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a cold front moving through the region will bring widespread morning showers, especially across the southeastern Piedmont and Sandhills. Cities including Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville, Rocky Mount, and Goldsboro are expected to see steady rainfall during the early commute hours.

Rain probabilities are highest along and south of Interstate 40 and near major roadways including I-85, US-1, US-64, and US-401. Motorists should prepare for wet pavement, ponding in low-lying areas, and reduced visibility during periods of heavier showers.

While rainfall will be most persistent during the morning, clearing will begin in the northwest—near the Triad—and gradually spread southeastward through the afternoon. By late day, many communities should see improving conditions with decreasing cloud cover.

Despite the rain, temperatures will remain above normal for mid-February. Afternoon highs are forecast to reach the upper 50s to lower 60s across much of central North Carolina, slightly cooler than Tuesday but still mild for this time of year.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time during the morning commute, use headlights in rain, and watch for slick conditions on bridges and overpasses.

Residents should monitor updated forecasts at weather.gov/rah as the front continues moving through the region.
