Raleigh County, WV – Two Raleigh County deputies are being credited with saving a life Tuesday morning after responding to an emergency at Grandview Park.
According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, Cpl. J. M. Hensley and Cpl. J. T. Howard were dispatched on January 6, 2026, to the park’s overlook area following reports of a person preparing to jump from a cliff. Deputies arrived quickly and made contact with the individual, ultimately preventing them from taking the fatal step.
Authorities said the deputies provided critical support at the scene before EMS transported the individual for further care. Sheriff Frank Priddy commended both deputies for their “professionalism, compassion, and quick response,” emphasizing that their actions directly contributed to saving a life.
Chief Deputy Frankie Shelton also extended thanks to the responding officers, noting that mental health calls are among the most challenging situations law enforcement faces.
The sheriff’s office urged anyone in crisis to seek help immediately, reminding the public that assistance is available 24/7 through the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988.
“You are not alone,” the department wrote in its statement. “Help is available.”
