Indianapolis, IN – Indiana residents should brace for a dynamic weather pattern this week, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and even freezing rain possible in some areas. A storm system moving in Tuesday night will bring widespread rain through Wednesday, followed by cooler temperatures and lingering showers.

According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday will start off mostly sunny with a high near 43°F before clouds increase in the evening. Rain is expected to begin overnight, becoming steady by Wednesday morning. Northern parts of the state could see freezing rain early in the day before transitioning to all rain. The chance of precipitation stands at 90%, with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and three-quarters of an inch possible.

By Wednesday night, thunderstorms could develop, bringing gusty winds and heavy downpours. Some areas may experience over an inch of rainfall, leading to potential flooding in low-lying regions. Thursday will see a slight chance of lingering rain showers, with temperatures peaking in the low 50s before dropping to 25°F overnight.

The five-day forecast shows clearing skies Friday, with a high near 39°F and calmer winds. However, another system may bring a mix of rain and snow Friday night into Saturday, with highs in the mid-40s and precipitation chances around 70%.

Motorists should prepare for slick roads early Wednesday, especially in areas where freezing rain occurs. Those in flood-prone zones should stay alert for standing water on roadways. Stay tuned to local forecasts, as conditions may shift with this evolving storm system.
