Quad Cities, IA/IL – Residents in the Quad Cities area should prepare for dangerously cold temperatures and icy conditions early this week. The National Weather Service has issued a warning for subzero wind chills and a chance of freezing drizzle Monday morning, creating hazardous conditions on local roads.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will drop dramatically Monday with highs only reaching 15-20°F and wind chill values as low as -5°F. Overnight lows Monday and Tuesday are expected to plummet to near 0°F. Gusty northwest winds up to 25 mph could make conditions feel even colder. Drivers should exercise caution during the Monday morning commute as icy patches are likely, especially on bridges and untreated roads.
By midweek, the bitter cold will ease slightly. Tuesday will remain frigid with highs near 17°F, but a warming trend will begin Wednesday with temperatures reaching the mid-20s. Thursday could bring highs near 40°F, providing some relief from the arctic blast.
The National Weather Service advises wearing layers, limiting outdoor exposure, and monitoring local forecasts for updated road conditions. If traveling, keep a winter emergency kit in your vehicle, including blankets and a flashlight.
Looking ahead, the weather remains quiet for most of the week after Monday’s icy start. Residents should expect partly sunny skies from Wednesday through Friday, with daytime highs ranging from the upper 20s to near 40°F by the weekend.
