Detroit, MI – Snow and bitter cold will dominate the forecast in southeast Michigan this week, bringing travel disruptions and safety concerns. Residents should prepare for light snow today and freezing temperatures expected to worsen by Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow showers are likely this afternoon into the evening, with accumulation ranging from 1-3 inches, primarily along the I-75 corridor. A chance of freezing drizzle could create slippery roads during the evening commute. Monday will bring scattered snow showers before a powerful arctic air mass drops temperatures significantly.

By Tuesday, wind chills are expected to plummet into the single digits, with highs only reaching 19-23°F. Lake-effect snow showers will persist throughout the day, particularly in areas near Port Huron and Flint. Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure and ensure pets are brought inside.

The coldest conditions will hit Wednesday, with wind chills potentially below zero in some areas. Highs will remain in the low 20s, while nighttime temperatures will dip into the teens. The week will conclude with another light snow event on Thursday, as a clipper system moves through the region.

Drivers should allow extra travel time, keep emergency kits in vehicles, and monitor updates for hazardous conditions. Stay tuned to local weather reports for the latest updates on snowfall and wind chill warnings.
