A heat advisory is in effect for areas along and south of Interstate 80 from noon until 7 PM on Saturday, according to the US National Weather Service Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois. The advisory warns that heat-related illness is possible for those engaging in strenuous outdoor activities or those without air conditioning.

Residents are advised to limit time spent outdoors, drink plenty of water, and avoid alcohol. Wearing light clothing and applying sunscreen is recommended. It’s crucial to check on family and pets and ensure children are not left unattended in hot cars. The advisory impacts regions including the Quad Cities, Ottumwa, Galesburg, and Macomb.

Heat advisories are issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 100 degrees or higher for at least two hours. These conditions can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke if proper precautions are not taken.

Residents are urged to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day and to use air conditioning if possible. Local authorities are also encouraging the community to watch for signs of heat-related illnesses, which include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, and headaches. If symptoms occur, move to a cooler location, drink water, and seek medical attention if necessary.
