Dangerously cold conditions continue across the Quad Cities region of Iowa and Illinois, with below-normal temperatures, subzero wind chills, and occasional chances for light snow expected through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight conditions tonight are especially hazardous, as temperatures fall into the single digits above and below zero, while wind chills plunge to between -10°F and -20°F. These conditions pose a significant risk for anyone spending extended time outdoors and could create dangerous travel conditions along major roadways, including Interstate 80, Interstate 74, and surrounding state highways.

Patchy light snow or flurries may develop early, particularly east of the Quad Cities, producing minor accumulations. Even small amounts of snow combined with extreme cold can lead to slick spots on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads, increasing the risk of accidents during overnight and early-morning travel.

Saturday will bring some improvement in visibility, with sunny skies, but temperatures will remain cold. Afternoon highs are expected to reach only the upper teens to lower 20s, offering little relief from the prolonged chill. Wind speeds may ease slightly, but cold exposure remains a concern for outdoor workers, travelers, and those without adequate shelter.

On Sunday, a clipper system moving through the region may bring a 20–60% chance of light snow, with amounts generally around 1 inch or less, highest northwest of the Quad Cities. While snowfall totals are expected to remain light, roadways such as I-80 and I-74 could see brief reductions in visibility and slick driving conditions, especially during periods of snow.

Officials urge residents to dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable individuals. Motorists should allow extra travel time, monitor road conditions, and be prepared for rapidly changing weather throughout the weekend.
