Quad Cities, IA – Thunderstorms rolling through eastern Iowa are expected to intensify through Wednesday, bringing a renewed threat of large hail, damaging winds, and potential tornadoes to the region.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, severe weather is forecast to persist from 8 a.m. through 6 p.m. Wednesday. The region may experience strong storms redeveloping throughout the day, with large hail up to the size of half dollars and isolated gusts exceeding 60 mph. A marginal to slight risk for severe storms has been issued, with the highest threat zone centered on the Quad Cities and surrounding counties.
In addition to storm threats, a Wind Advisory has been issued for areas south of Interstate 80, where gusts between 40–50 mph are likely. Officials warn drivers of high-profile vehicles to use caution on open roadways, particularly during the late morning into the early evening.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, park vehicles in garages, and monitor official weather alerts. Scattered thunderstorms may disrupt morning commutes, with intense rainfall and lightning possible.
The storm system brings increased concern given the unpredictable storm development, and residents should ensure they have multiple ways to receive severe weather warnings.
