Putnam County, IN – A Putnam County Sheriff’s deputy narrowly avoided serious injury during a storm while assisting at a traffic accident on US 40. The deputy, identified as Deputy Query, was responding to a car that had collided with a tree when another tree fell onto his vehicle, smashing the cruiser.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred during a period of severe weather. Despite the damage to the vehicle, no injuries were reported. The department expressed relief, stating, “Blessed beyond belief that it’s only a vehicle.”
Emergency services were overwhelmed, addressing multiple fallen trees and road hazards across the area. Fire services are working to clear roads while urging residents to stay home for safety.
The sheriff’s office also requested the public’s prayers for all emergency personnel working in the storm. They continue to monitor the situation as fallen trees and storm damage remain widespread.
