Colorado Springs, CO – Spring weather in southern Colorado will swing wildly this week, with high fire danger Thursday and snow showers just a day later. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for El Paso, Teller, Fremont, and surrounding counties Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. MDT, as gusty southwest winds and low humidity create conditions ripe for wildfires.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, wind gusts could reach 50 mph Thursday afternoon, with relative humidity as low as 5 percent. Fire weather zones include areas along the I-25 corridor, from Colorado Springs to the southern San Luis Valley. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and any sparks could quickly spread out of control.

By Thursday night, a cold front moves in, dropping temperatures sharply. A 50% chance of rain and snow showers begins after midnight, especially in higher terrain. Snow becomes likely on Friday, with 1 to 3 inches possible and thunder possible in isolated areas. Travel may be impacted in mountain zones and along elevated routes.

Expect a chilly Saturday with snow showers likely and highs in the upper 30s. Easter Sunday brings a break, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 60°F—though a 20% chance of afternoon showers remains.
