Pueblo, CO – Extreme fire danger continues across southern Colorado as Red Flag Warnings remain in effect through Tuesday evening. High winds, low humidity, and dry conditions are increasing the risk of fast-spreading wildfires across multiple counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the first Red Flag Warning will remain active until midnight Monday, impacting areas including El Paso, Pueblo, Crowley, Otero, Las Animas, Kiowa, Bent, Prowers, and Baca counties. A second warning will take effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday for the same locations.
Winds are expected to reach 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph. Relative humidity levels could drop as low as 6%, significantly heightening fire risks. Areas including Huerfano and western Las Animas counties are also under a Red Flag Warning through 8 p.m. Tuesday, with wind gusts potentially reaching 70 mph and humidity as low as 7%.
Residents are urged to avoid any outdoor burning, properly dispose of cigarette butts, and secure outdoor equipment that could spark a fire. Officials warn that fires will spread uncontrollably and may cause extensive damage.
A Red Flag Warning indicates critical fire weather conditions. The public is advised to stay updated on alerts and take necessary precautions to prevent wildfires.
