Little Rock, AR – Residents across Arkansas are urged to prepare for a significant drop in temperatures starting Saturday night, as an arctic cold front moves into the state. Today’s sunny and mild weather will give way to freezing conditions, with lows plunging into the teens and highs struggling to rise above freezing by Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, a high near 56 is expected today, but colder air will begin to filter into the region Friday night, bringing a chance of rain and lows around 40 degrees. By Saturday night, the mercury will drop to 23 degrees, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Sunday’s high will barely reach 33 degrees, with overnight lows plummeting to 16 degrees.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution on highways such as I-30 and I-40, as icy conditions may develop late Saturday into early Sunday. Vulnerable populations, including newborns, the elderly, and outdoor workers, are at heightened risk from the extreme cold. Residents should dress in warm, layered clothing, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, and check on neighbors and pets to ensure their safety.
The National Weather Service also warns that Monday could see a 20% chance of snow, with highs near 27. Little Rock and surrounding areas should prepare for continued cold conditions through early next week, with temperatures slowly moderating by Tuesday.
Residents should act now by stocking up on supplies, insulating exposed pipes, and staying informed through reliable weather updates.
