Caribou, ME – A winter storm is expected to bring snow and rain to northern Maine beginning Friday night, creating hazardous travel conditions. Residents should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, light snow will develop Friday evening before transitioning to a wintry mix overnight. Snowfall accumulation is expected to reach up to one inch before rain dominates by early Saturday morning. Winds will increase Saturday, with gusts reaching 29 mph, making driving conditions particularly dangerous on untreated roadways.

Saturday’s high will reach 34°F, but colder air will move in Saturday night, dropping temperatures to 28°F as precipitation tapers off. Sunday will bring a mix of rain and snow early, with highs peaking near 32°F, before Arctic air settles into the region Sunday night.

Temperatures will plummet to 4°F Sunday night, and gusts up to 22 mph will drive wind chills even lower. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday will be bitterly cold, with highs around 11°F and lows near -13°F Tuesday morning.

Residents should avoid unnecessary travel, dress for extreme cold, and monitor updates as conditions evolve.
