Detroit, MI – Warmer weather is on the way for southeast Michigan, but holiday travelers should prepare for rain later this week. Temperatures will climb from the mid-30s on Christmas Day into the upper 30s Thursday and mid-40s Friday, providing relief from earlier frigid conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, patchy drizzle is possible tonight, but the better rain chances begin Friday afternoon. Travelers along major routes like I-75 should anticipate wet roadways and reduced visibility heading into the weekend.
Thursday will bring mostly cloudy skies and light southeast winds at 3 to 6 mph. Highs near 40 degrees will continue the warming trend. Friday is expected to see increasing rain chances after 1 p.m., with a 70% chance of steady rain by Friday night. Those planning post-Christmas travel should leave early or prepare for delays during the evening hours.
Looking ahead, Saturday’s high of 52 degrees will feel unseasonably warm but comes with additional rain, potentially impacting weekend activities. Sunday will also stay mild with highs in the low 50s and rain likely in the morning. By Monday, conditions are expected to dry out, with partly sunny skies and a high near 47 degrees.
Motorists should monitor local forecasts for updates and use caution when traveling in rainy conditions. Reduced visibility and slick roads could create challenges as holiday travelers return home.
