Portland, OR – A series of strong winter storms will bring heavy snowfall to the Oregon and Washington Cascades through Friday, with travel conditions expected to deteriorate significantly. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory through Tuesday evening, followed by a Winter Storm Watch from Wednesday afternoon through Friday evening.

According to the NWS, the initial storm will bring between 3 and 8 inches of snow to the northern and central Oregon Cascades by 5 p.m. Tuesday. A second, more intense system will arrive late Wednesday, bringing the potential for up to 20 inches of snow at elevations above 4,500 feet. A third and even stronger front is expected Friday, with total accumulations reaching 35 inches in higher elevations.

The South Washington Cascades, including areas around Larch Mountain and Mt. St. Helens, will see similar conditions, with heavy snowfall expected from Wednesday through Friday night.

Officials warn that roads, particularly bridges and overpasses, will become slick and hazardous. Motorists are advised to winterize their vehicles, carry emergency supplies, and check road conditions via Oregon’s TripCheck website or by calling 511.

Residents and travelers should stay updated on the latest forecasts as conditions may change rapidly throughout the week.
